* This book contains papers presented at the First International Symposium on Rainfall Rate and Radio Wave Propagation, ISRR'07, conducted by the Department of Physics, at the Sona College of Technology, in Salem, India in January 2007. The symposium consisted of a series of invited lectures and presentations from delegates of various research institutions and universities from India and abroad.

* It provided a scientific forum for the presentation of new results and to discuss recent developments in rainfall study and radio wave propagation. The papers in this proceedings are organized into five sessions: rain characteristics and measurements, clouds, propagation, attenuation and refractivity studies, instruments and methods, and weather and climate. The symposium was sponsored by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) and co-sponsored by various local agencies. *

* Satellite remote sensing for Earth science data has been rapidly expanding during the last decade. Volume 1 of this two volume monograph covers missions/sensors, such as Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS), Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS), Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS), and Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU). It also discusses the NPOESS and NPP missions. Emphasis was placed on the recently launched Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board of both Terra and Aqua. Some key MODIS science team members were invited to contribute several chapters.
* The core of this monograph arose from the workshop for Earth Science Satellite Remote Sensing held at George Mason University (GMU) in October 2002. Both volumes are designed to give scientists and graduate students with limited remote sensing background a thorough introduction to current and future NASA, NOAA and other Earth science remote sensing missions. *

* The physics and dynamics of the atmosphere and atmosphere-ocean interactions provide the foundation of modern climate models, upon which our understanding of the chemistry and biology of ocean and land surface processes are built. This volume captures modern developments in modeling the atmosphere, and their implications for our understanding of climate change, whether due to natural or anthropogenic causes. Emphasis is on elucidating how greenhouse gases and aerosols are altering the radiative forcing of the climate system and the sensitivity of the system to such perturbations. *
