                            16,700円

Contents
1. General points on materials and their rheophysical behaviour/ 2. Overview of the mechanics of continuous media/ 3. Hydrodynamics of simple liquids/ 4. Solid elasticity/ 5. Defects, plasticity and fracture solids/ 6. Rheology of isotropic viscoelastic materials (1)/ 7. Rheology of isotropic viscoelastic materials (2)/ 8. The rheology of liquid crystals/ References/ Notations/ Index/

* Why is it necessary to strike while the iron is hot? What makes a good liquid crystal display? Why is rubber so elastic? These questions can be answered through rheophysics, using the mechanics of continuous media at the macroscopic scale, and statistical mechanics and the physics of defects at the microscopic level.

* This book addresses problems involving the flow of matter, covering the main aspects of the mechanical response of fluids and solids to applied stress or strain. It includes the hydrodynamics of ordinary liquids, the elasticity and plasticity of solids, and the rheology of complex fluids such as suspensions, polymers and liquid crystals. *

* The conference discussed the latest work in the ever-widening field of rheology - the study of the flow and deformation of matter. All materials with interesting mechanical properties, ranging from glassy and semi-crystalline solids to low viscosity, easily pourable liquids, were discussed.

* These include synthetic and biological polymer liquids, gels and networks, colloidal suspensions, foods, surfactants, emulsions and foams. New experimental methods, simple and complex flows, and processing methods for interesting materials were discussed by experts from around the world. *

ISBN 3-7643-8842-0
                            13,600円

Contents
1 Fluid Flow Modeling/ 2 Weak Solutions, A Priori Estimates/ 3 Existence Theory/ 4 Asymptotic Analysis − An Introduction/ 5 Singular Limits − Low Stratification/ 6 Stratified Fluids/ 7 Interaction of Acoustic Waves with Boundary/ 8 ProblemsonLargeDomains/ 9 Acoustic Analogies/ 10 Appendix/ 11 Bibliographical Remarks/ Bibliography/ Index/

* Many interesting problems in mathematical fluid dynamics involve the behavior of solutions of nonlinear systems of partial differential equations as certain parameters vanish or become infinite. Frequently the limiting solution, provided the limit exists, satisfies a qualitatively different system of differential equations.

* This book is designed as an introduction to the problems involving singular limits based on the concept of weak or variational solutions. The primitive system consists of a complete system of partial differential equations describing the time evolution of the three basic state variables: the density, the velocity, and the absolute temperature associated to a fluid, which is supposed to be compressible, viscous, and heat conducting. It can be represented by the Navier-Stokes-Fourier-system that combines Newton's rheological law for the viscous stress and Fourier's law of heat conduction for the internal energy flux. *

Introduction to the Numerical Analysis of Incompressible Viscous Flows

SIAM 2008.12
213 pp.(H)
ISBN 0-898716-57-8
                            9,600円

Contents
1.Mathematical Foundations/ 2.Steady Fluid Flow Phenomena/ 3.Time-Dependent Fluid Flow Phenomena/ Appendix Nomenclature/ Bibliography/ Index/

* This book treats the numerical analysis of finite element computational fluid dynamics. Assuming minimal background, the text covers finite element methods; the derivation, behavior, analysis, and numerical analysis of Navier-Stokes equations; and turbulence and turbulence models used in simulations. Each chapter on theory is followed by a numerical analysis chapter that expands on the theory. The chapters contain numerous exercises. *

                            18,200円

Contents
1. One-dimensional viscoelasticity/ 2. Three-dimensional viscoelasticity/ 3. Viscoelastic P, SI and SII waves/ 4. Framework for single-boundary reflection-refraction and surface-wave problems/ 5. General P, SI, and SII waves incident on a viscoelastic boundary/ 6. Numerical models for general waves reflected and refracted at viscoelastic boundaries/ 7. General SII waves incident on multiple layers of viscoelastic media/ 10. Love-type surface waves in multilayered viscoelastic media/ 11. Appendices/ 12. References/ Index/

* This book is a rigorous, self-contained exposition of the mathematical theory for wave propagation in layered media with arbitrary amounts of intrinsic absorption. The theory, previously unpublished in book form, provides solutions for fundamental wave-propagation problems and corresponding numerical results in the context of any media with a linear response (elastic or anelastic). It provides new insights regarding the physical characteristics for two- and three-dimensional anelastic body and surface waves. *
